March 2020:
These are the suggested hymns for the
month of March, selected from the Southwark Diocese Music Planner. Rehearsals are held in the church on
Sunday at 9.30 a.m. before the 10.30 a.m. Mass, we now move to a ‘choir lite’ stage.
For the past five years the parish held a week day hymnal singing practice, initially on a Monday then switching to a Thursday, those rehearsals now cease (as of September 2019). Additional rehearsals will be organised on an ad hoc basis as and when required, for example, to learn new hymns or material or when preparing for special occasions. Please click here to view Choir 'lite'.
Occasionally the hymn numbers may be subject to change. The final selected hymns are presented on the main web page Hymns.
The hymns below are suggestions and subject to change.
The SEASON of LENT
Penitence is an essential part of the Christian life, for none of us can measure up to the tremendous vocation that is ours as Christians. We are in constant need of the mercy and forgiveness of God. Today we express this by taking part in an impressive corporate act of penitence and reconciliation, beseeching God for the grace to use with profit the ‘favourable time’ of preparation for the celebration of Christ’s Passover feast.
The Lenten season allows us to focus on the Penitential Rite and reflect on God’s mercy, as we do not sing or intone the Gloria or Alleluia.
