February 2020:

These are the suggested hymns for the month of February  selected from the Southwark Diocese Music Planner. Rehearsals are held in the church on Sunday at 9.30 a.m. before the 10.30 a.m. Mass, we now move to a ‘choir lite’ stage.

For the past five years the parish held a week day hymnal singing practice, initially on a Monday then switching to a Thursday, those rehearsals now cease (as of September 2019). Additional rehearsals will be organised on an ad hoc basis as and when required, for example, to learn new hymns or material or when preparing for special occasions. Please click here to view Choir 'lite'.

Occasionally the hymn numbers may be subject to change.  The final selected hymns are presented on the main web page Hymns.

The hymns below are suggestions and subject to change.

5th Sunday Ordinary Time (A) – 9th February 2020

Themes / Thoughts: Christ our light - an the light of the earth. The church as light in the darkness. The church is a light shining in the darkness of the world. But today’s celebration is overshadowed by a great ‘If’. How much more brightly would that light shine if we who are Christians were really like Christ?  Blessed are the poor:  human nothingness without God. Remembering especially 'Racial Justice Day'.

Readings: Isaiah 58:7-10   Psalm 111  1 Corinthians 2:1-5   Matthew 5:13-16

Psalm 111:  The good man is a light in the darkness for the upright
